Canada Post Strike

Canada Post Strike - CANADA SHIPMENTS IMPACTED

Update to Canada Post Strike in Q4 2024

Alert
Update - As of 1/13/2025, Asendia and USPS prices and services have been restored for Apliiq orders shipping to Canada and UPS will only be used as appropriate.  Tracking links for the backlog of 10+ million packages have begun updating and are moving again.
Info
Update - As of 12/16/2024, the Canada Post strike has ended and they will be getting back to work starting on 12/17/2024.  Please know that in the more than 4 weeks since the start of the strike there is now a backlog of 10+ million packages that Canada Post has to work through before new packages will ship with standard shipping times.  Realistically, it will take Canada Post 4-6 weeks to work through this Substantial Backlog and so Apliiq is going to wait until the backlog has been dramatically reduced before reinstating the lower Canada shipping rates and routing all smaller Canada orders to shipping couriers that use Canada Post.
InfoAlertCanada Post workers have been on strike since November 15th, 2024.  This is the national postal system of Canada and fulfills most residential shipments for Canadian customers.  The situation with the strike is dynamic and rapidly changing.  As of 12/2/2024, couriers that utilize Canada Post are no longer accepting shipments.

For New Orders To Canada

Going forward, the strike impacts shipping couriers, like USPS International & Asendia, that utilize Canada Post for final mile delivery (delivery within Canada).

While this doesn't prohibit Apliiq from shipping orders to Canada, it does severely limit the options available as to which shipping couriers and services Apliiq can use to get orders to our northern neighbor.

Idea
Until the strike is resolved, Apliiq will utilize UPS for all Canada shipments going forward.  Unfortunately, UPS is significantly more expensive than previously available shipping carriers.

  1. Download the latest shipping profile from Apliiq Print On Demand app for your store.  This new rate card reflects the new UPS Standard Canada shipping rates.
  2. Caution Canadian customers that there will likely be shipping delays for the holidays this year.  Again, most Canadian customers should know this, but setting proper expectations never hurts.
  3. You may want to consider temporarily suspending sales to Canada, if you don't want to deal with possible shipping issues.

For Canada Orders Already Shipped

The key word for these shipments is patience.  We urger all partners and their customers to be patient until the strike is resolved.  In all reality, it could take weeks or months for all the shipments to reach their end recipients, as a larger backlog of shipments has accumulated and it will take some time, once processing has resumed, to clear this backlog.

With regards to managing your customer expectations, the good news here is that all Canadian citizens should be aware of the strike, and how this is affecting their deliveries.  There is nothing you or Apliiq can do to resolve the strike and Canadian citizens shouls urge their leaders to resolve the strike as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, Apliiq cannot refund, remake, or reship orders that have already been mailed to Canada.  We must patiently await the resolution of the strike.

For Canada Orders In Production

As a courtesy, Apliiq has placed current Canada orders that have not started production ON HOLD within our production system.  Apliiq will reach out to our partners regarding affected shipments, but you can also reach out directly to Apliiq CS to proactively resolve any pending shipments.  For these orders, you have a couple different options:
  1. Apliiq will cancel these orders with no financial penalties to you.  No restocking fees & full refunds.
  2. Apliiq can invoice you for the difference in shipping fees. For most small orders, the base shipping rate is $27.00 USD, and we will invoice you for the difference.

A final word

Apliiq apologies for the inconvenience with regards to the Canada Post Strike.  Unfortunately, the strike is entirely out of our control and we all have limited options going forward until the strike is resolved.
