How to Set Up Artwork for Printed Labels

Idea
Printed labels are a great way to add branding, sizing, care instructions, or finishing details to your products. To get the best results, please follow these artwork setup guidelines before uploading your label design.

For best results, upload your label artwork as a PNG file.

PNG files work well because they preserve image quality and support full-color artwork.

Artwork Resolution

Your artwork should be at least 150 DPI at the size you want it printed.

For the best print quality, we recommend setting up your artwork at 300 DPI.

Low-resolution artwork may appear blurry, pixelated, or less sharp when printed.

Label Size

Printed labels can be up to:

2" x 2"

Your artwork does not need to fill the full 2" x 2" area. Smaller labels are allowed, as long as the design is set up clearly and sized correctly.

Best Label Shapes

The best shapes for printed labels are:

  • Squares
  • Rectangles
  • Circles

These shapes print cleanly and are easiest to produce consistently.

Make Sure Your Artwork Shape Is Continuous

Your label artwork should be one continuous shape.

This means the printable area should be connected and easy to identify. Avoid artwork with separated pieces or disconnected shapes unless they are placed on a single continuous background.

How to Fix Disconnected Shapes

If your design has separate elements, you can add a background shape behind the artwork to make the label continuous.

For example:

  • Add a square or rectangle behind your design
  • Add a circle behind your design
  • Use a solid background color to connect separate artwork elements

This helps make sure your printed label has a clear final shape.

Colors

Unlimited colors are allowed.

You can upload full-color artwork, including gradients, illustrations, logos, and detailed designs.

Quick Artwork Checklist

Before uploading your printed label artwork, make sure:

  • Your file is a PNG
  • Your artwork is at least 150 DPI
  • Your artwork is ideally 300 DPI for best print quality
  • Your design is no larger than 2" x 2"
  • Your label shape is a square, rectangle, or circle
  • Your artwork forms one continuous shape
  • Any disconnected artwork elements have a background added behind them
  • Your design is sized the way you want it printed

Following these guidelines will help ensure your printed labels come out clean, professional, and ready to use.
