Material Discoloration & How to Avoid It

The direct to garment ink systems we use are non-hazardous, nontoxic, and contain no heavy metals.  The inks are also vegan, organic, and biodegradable.  🍃

While direct-to-garment printing has enormous financial and sustainability advantages for brands, there are some small potential drawbacks that are worth covering.

Some light colored garments, such as light blue, turquoise, light green and light yellow colors but possibly others too, may show minor discoloration after they are direct-to-garment printed.

The discoloration is caused by a reaction between the fixation agent and the dyes of the garment.  Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to prevent the minor discoloration.  As all direct-to-garment prints require the use of fixation agent, minor discoloration in a product after it is printed does not mean a production error occurred.

There are some steps you can take to prevent or avoid this issue altogether.  Don't direct-to-garment print on these colors.  Instead, use either screen printing or embroidery for such garment colors.  Finally, always order a sample before ordering in bulk.
Fortunately, most fixation discolorations wash out as the product is worn and laundered.
